Seen at the gym

For not the first time, I saw superdelegate and U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore. He runs on the treadmill, makes eye contact, smiles, and stays focused on exercising. There's also a judge, a high-level Portland Trailblazers coaching team guy, the owner of a car dealership, and a woman who ran in the Boston Marathon. And others. In addition to weights, cardio equipment, squash and racquetball courts, the gym has a bar.

At my old gym, which did not have a bar, I once ran into U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., presumably a superdelegate as well. I only ever saw him leaving - making eye contact, smiling, saying hi as he walked out the door.

That Trailblazers coaching team guy is Maurice Lucas, who works out at the gym with us when it's not Blazer season. He's currently an assistant coach, and is pretty much a hero of anyone who was a Blazer fan in 1977, which I'm sure includes many male members of the gym. The locker room can get loud when he's in it.

He mainly plays racquetball. Definitely the tallest guy at the gym by a mile.

an alcohol bar?
or like a smoothie and tea bar?

They sell beer, wine, juice and snacks.

Who wants to drink alcohol either before or after working out?
Is there a logic to this I'm missing?

I certainly don't. I think it's mostly the racquetball and squash players who drink. They travel in groups and then have mini-tournaments, where two players face off and the rest sit around noshing on popcorn and tossing back beers.
