Seattle day trip
Seattle has a better skyline than Portland. Tall buildings, densely packed. We're much more sprawling down here. Despite our sprawl, though, people seem less dependent on cars in the Rose City than in the Emerald City.
In other news, I'm dead tired. A highly-worthwhile work trip took me to Seattle today, and between driving and interviewing I was gone for 11 hours. Then I went to the gym for another hour and a half.
The lab I visited in Seattle today is involved in the fabrication of microelectromechanical systems, which in vastly-oversimplified terms are very, very small machines with cool properties. MEMs can be used to project light, measure pressure, and measure motion. They're key to my favorite new toy, even - the Wii. Learning stuff is so cool.
