Friday night, time for ...
I've been ready to fill out those tax forms for about three weeks, but Ben only got his W-2 yesterday. So tonight I'm surrounded by 1014s, 1098s, and 1099s, and I'm ready to go. My strategy: enter everything in to the free version of TurboTax. To print out the actual forms TurboTax requires me to pay. So once I know my maximum refund, know what I'm aiming for, I'll break out my calculator, the 1040 form, and start filling it out all by myself.

Friday night, time for...Scooby Doo macaroni and cheese and a cocktail in a sippy cup (that came for free in the mail). Both consumed while wrapped in a dinosaur blanket. I am approximately 5 years old. Your friday night is much more adult.

I approve of this plan, because it's generally what I have done in the past. I have qualified for free filing for the last several years, so I've had TurboTax do my federal return, and I transcribe my state refund by hand once TT has done the math.
This year is our first joint return! Thrilling! I "finished" our return about a week ago, but I've been waiting to file until we have all the official forms in hand.

I learned this year (second joint return) that our names have to be in the same order on the IRS form every year for the rest of our lives together or else.
Erin, maybe today I'll try a beer and mac and cheese version of your Friday night.

TurboTax was nice enough to warn us about this craziness. As if marriage wasn't complicated enough, now we have to decide who gets top billing!
