The news from Lake Benjamacourtney

Tonight I made tapioca pudding. I thought tapioca was a seed, but apparently it comes from the cassava root. I cook tapioca about once every three years, if that. It's good, but I'm generally not a dessert person.

I ran 5.3 miles, which wasn't as far as I originally planned to go. My body felt blissfully exhausted when it was over. Ben and I watched the last couple of episodes of World War II mini-drama "Band of Brothers." The Holocaust always makes me cry. It's hard to imagine anything worse or more awful, and it's an important reminder that just wars do exist.

Ben has been very productive lately, and his streak continued tonight. All of the remaining unpacked boxes are my responsibility. I'm not feeling motivated to tackle them.

Next weekend I run a half-marathon. I'm thinking of writing a novel; I've written a few fragments and sketched out the characters and plot. I'm throwing myself into my work, but only for 40 hours each week. That's enough.

The pediatrician who took care of you in the hospital, as a newborn, was named Dr Benjama. Sounds a little like Benjamacourtney. I wonder what she would think almost 30 years later?

Who knew then that you’d be running and writing a novel. All you did back then was eat and sleep!

Love you, Mom
