Portland.

Every year I am surprised by how excited this city gets after dark on the Fourth of July. The streets are filled with smoke and the skies are filled with echoes and light.

I am relieved that you already had your new mattress delivered!

Poor Molly has never been as freaked out about fireworks as she was this year, and they seemed to begin earlier this year too, days in advance, especially the day before. She seemed to hear the explosions a split second before I could. Zeke however, was completely unaffected this year, further proof of his loss of hearing. Molly followed me everywhere and in the evening finally burrowed into the blankets on my lap, and wouldn't go out to potty. She lived through it though.
