June 26, 2006

We peaked at 101 or 102 an hour and a half ago, and now it's dipped back down to 99. I had a near-run in with heat stroke (dizziness and an overwhelming urge to vomit) and -- because I fainted last time this happened -- quickly pulled my car out of traffic. Fortunately, there was a grocery store right there, and I was able to eat cold yogurt and cool off in the frozen foods aisle.

I have no idea how I survived in Virginia, back when we had humidity. I guess a combination of air conditioning and occasional fainting spells. I think I'd die if I ever had to live in Arizona. I'm not looking forward to the continued warming of the planet.

It's too hot to cook, so I'm having chilled beer for dinner. I'll be in the basement, where it's cool.

It's 104 down here. I want to move into my car. This totally sucks... My family is emailing me in concern. My father (in Florida) is completely appalled. Ryan went off and got an air conditioner but we're too hot to deal with the ordeal of building a stand to put it on until tomorrow. Last night it didn't drop past 90 until after midnight.

And to think, you were born in Bangkok where it got up to 90 degrees today with 71% humidity- which is normal for this time of year.

Of course you did have a heat stroke in Chiang Mai once when you were about 4.

Keep cool sweetie.

Love you, Mom

I guess people can adapt to live anywhere, but as an individual I really hate to be hot.

I spent more than two hours in the basement, but now it's cooled down to 93 degrees and I'm back upstairs to eat some cookie dough before bed time.

I brought a bean bag chair, a radio and some magazines down with me, made a table out of a box and ate chili while laying low.

I'm worn out and ready for tomorrow, when the highs are supposed to drop to 83.

I think I'm going to change my planned wardrobe for your wedding if those temperatures continue! Make sure you stay well-hydrated. Thanks for the updates!!

The average high temperature at this time of year is 73 degrees, and it hasn't hit 100 here for several years. This blip is definitely an abnormality. Between your visit and this week, Anon, it's been mostly in the 60s.

I have no idea how to predict what it will be like in late July, but I'll try to send out an e-mail about a week before the wedding with updates on what to pack. Odds are good that it'll be chilly at night, even if it is warm during the day.

Good luck drying off.
