The frustrating thing about making coffee in the morning is that you haven't had any coffee yet while you're making it. This morning, it took me several seconds of pouring to realize that my coffee mug was upside down.
"That's weird how it's splashing off the mug onto the counter," I thought. "Coffee doesn't usually do that. I wonder what's going on."
By the time I figured it out, I had already lost several tablespoons of the vital, life-giving beverage.

Not for the first time reading your blog, I laughed out loud and at such length that I wondered if others around me would wonder if I was OK.

This is so insightful. I make coffee every morning with a stovetop espresso maker, and it usually takes me a good five minutes to get the water in the bottom, grind the beans, put the pieces together, light the stove, and get it on the fire. It's just so confusing. Often I will just stare at one piece for an immeasurably long time, wondering what it is and what I'm supposed to do with it.
This morning I awoke to a bright and cheery Chris nonchalantly commenting that we were out of coffee and suggesting that perhaps I would like some green tea and a smoothie. I would not. This was not a good way to start the morning.
